Output Formats
SBS, TB & Anaglyph
anelo outputs stereoscopic video in several standard formats. The right choice depends on your playback device and distribution requirements.
Side-by-side (SBS)
The most widely supported stereo format. Left and right eye views are placed next to each other in a single frame. Two variants:
- Full SBS: Each eye is at the full source resolution. Total frame width is doubled. Best quality but large file size.
- Half SBS: Each eye is horizontally squeezed to half width. The player stretches them back during playback. Compatible with nearly every 3D TV and VR player.
Top-bottom (TB)
Left eye on top, right eye on bottom. Similar to SBS but stacked vertically. Used in some broadcast workflows and VR applications. Half TB (vertical squeeze) is also available.
Anaglyph (red/cyan)
Both eye views encoded in a single frame using color separation. Viewable with inexpensive red/cyan glasses. Useful for quick previews and web distribution where 3D hardware is not available. Not recommended for production use — color accuracy is limited.
Choosing a format
- For Meta Quest: Half SBS in MKV container
- For 3D TVs: Half SBS or full SBS depending on TV model
- For broadcast: Top-bottom (check broadcaster specifications)
- For quick preview: Anaglyph
- For Apple Vision Pro: Use MV-HEVC instead (see next page)
- For maximum quality archival: Full SBS
